‘I start with the premise that the function of leadership is to produce more leaders, not more followers.’ —Ralph Nader

At Kate Cooper Ltd, we believe that everyone can #doleadershipbetter & that the keys to positive change are incremental gains.

For those of us that want to construct & lead authentic teams & organisations, the prognosis is generally good.  In the hyperconnected world we inhabit, consumers are better informed than ever before, & increasingly are utilising this knowledge to support businesses whose values they share.  Your role as a leader therefore, is not just to inspire consumers to buy from you; it is to encourage the right people to work with you. Rear Admiral Grace Murray Hopper once said ‘You manage things; you lead people.’

The 3Rs of Leadership are the leadership fundamentals, three activities that when executed well, facilitate great performances from individuals and teams; & all of the programmes at Kate Cooper Ltd. are rooted in this framework & established & developing schools of management theory.

Reality modules enable you to build a thorough understanding of the strengths & weaknesses of yourself, your team & your organisation to help you create a practical & bespoke strategy for progress.

Relate modules provide the opportunity to analyse how you can more effectively inspire the people around you with comprehensive insight into the latest academic research; & practical steps you can take in your day to day interactions.

Results modules will lay out recent developments in academic thought to provide practical insights & recommendations to improve morale & productivity of the teams & individuals you lead.  How can we practically #doleadershipbetter, & how do we prove it?

If you’d like to empower your teams and create #reasonstocelebrate, you can book a complimentary 30 minute session with one of our coaches here.

Reality

Management theories, models and tools are useful for aspiring, new and experienced managers alike. The day to day reality of managing and working with people often means that the ‘perfect’ solution or approach is not available, and therefore what we need are concepts that can be adapted to focus on the arsenal we have at our disposal within the situations we find ourselves.

Effective leadership means understanding our reality, the capabilities of our colleagues, the opportunities in the market place and accepting and working with what we’ve got rather than fantasising about what we’d like. Taking time to understand and use the various tools that help us capture our reality not only provides us with insights but provides a language we can use when discussing what our shared reality is with others; as well as the shared vision we can establish and cement within our organisations.

Relating

Leadership is a relational activity as it typically involves more than one person. Improving our leadership capability at least in part means improving the quality of the relationship we have with the people we work with and lead.

To quote Professor Charles Hampden-Turner relating authentically is ‘what lies between people’, essentially, how we hear, respond to and trust the interactions we have. As we forge and maintain relationships at work, understanding and effectively communicating what we want, expect and offer in our professional relationships is an essential tool to enhance our leadership capabilities and performance.

Results

Leaders will ultimately be judged on what they deliver, not what they say they are going to deliver or the reasons why they haven’t- no matter how plausible they sound. However we think about leadership, in whatever context it takes place, being able to evidence what you deliver and the results you achieve helps us and those we work with.

Using evidenced based approaches for gauging success is an important part of delivering results; but we must also remember that aspects of our work that are less easily measured do not automatically become less important as a result.
